Most of the schools in Nepal consist of four wooden poles supporting a thatched roof. No blackboard. No desks. Few books. Open toilets, no proper classrooms, no playgrounds, no libraries, not even drinking water.
In order to address the lack of basic educational infrastructure, Real Travel Nepal has been working hard to provide needy schools and health posts with volunteers who are ready to help construct basic infrastructure and implement other desperately needed improvements. Local communities and volunteer contributions usually fund projects. In the Construction and Manual Work Volunteering Program, volunteers will work as part of a volunteer team, usually with minimal supervision. Often, you’ll also work alongside villagers, learning about traditional methods of building and working. Example: After completion of the construction project, volunteers who wish to stay for longer periods may participate in our other volunteer programs, e.g., teaching in schools, health, community education, environmental programs, working in orphanages, or as a part of the cultural exchange program.
Skilled Nepali will lead volunteers and will work together with local people. Individual construction programs last between one and three weeks. Real Journey Nepal arranges the location and logistical support, including skilled manpower, food and accommodation, training, etc.
