Overview

Have you ever imagined yourself wandering through the esteemed halls of a Buddhist monastery? Would you be keen on helping to teach young monks English, thus allowing them to convey their message of peace to the world? Although 80% of the population in Nepal adheres to Hinduism, this mesmerizing country located in the Himalayan mountains is, in reality, the birthplace of Buddhism. With its elaborate temples and monasteries that draw pilgrims from around the world seeking spiritual enlightenment, Nepal offers a fascinating glimpse into Buddhist culture.

Thousands of Tibetans reside in exile across India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Among these exiles, around 20 percent live in Nepal, where they enjoy the freedom to practice their religion and reclaim their cultural identity. Consequently, many large monasteries have been established in the mountainous regions surrounding Kathmandu, where monks dedicate their lives to the study and practice of Buddhism. In light of globalization and various advancements, there is significant interest and enthusiasm among young monks to learn English. Given the shortage of English instructors in the monasteries, our volunteers are positioned to provide English lessons to these monks, enabling them to disseminate their teachings more broadly. By participating in Real Journey Nepal’s Buddhist monastery volunteer program in Nepal, you will have the opportunity to teach English to the monks and assist them in conveying their vital teachings to a modern and evolving society. This program will profoundly affect both the monks’ lives and those who aspire to learn the principles of Buddhism from them. Reach out to Real Journey Nepal today to discover more about the opportunity to volunteer as an English teacher at a Buddhist monastery in Nepal!
